Story: The Frozen Hours
Author: Noldo
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Martha, travelling the universe.
Characters/Pairings: Martha, the Tenth Doctor
Warnings: none

Recced because: A stunning piece, this truly gets at the heart of the alienness of Doctor Who. It's Martha and her adventures, with world-building and hope and fear and loss, and the Doctor, quietly, surely, going mad, and everyone hanging on to the pieces. The quality of this, the light and the dark and the madness seeping through, and Martha's humanity, curiosity, her dreams and her realities, are all perfectly expressed. This is an amazing character study for both of them, and with interestingly structured prose, careful and vivid writing, and insightful commentary on the life of a time traveller, this story really stands out.

Series: Sic Transit Tempus
Author: Jadesfire
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Jack has to sit through the Twentieth century, waiting for the Doctor. These stories follow him from 1953-present day Torchwood, with all the usual trouble that Jack can get himself into.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Other Characters
Warnings: none

Recced because: If you only read one series of stories that covers some of those years between Jack's arrival on Earth after PotW and the start of Torchwood, read this one. Jadesfire has a brilliant ability to bring Jack and the various characters that cross his path through his long path to Series 1 of Torchwood to life. Every character is so real that you care about every single one of them, even if they aren't the 'name' that Jack Harkness is. But most especially you get to learn more about who Jack is now that he can't define himself by his life with the Doctor and it's simply marvelous to read.
