Didn't do a rec yesterday because I felt so ill I went straight to sleep - am now still ill, but coherent enough to catch up with the reccing. ^^

Story: The Howling
Author: Fayth
Rating: All ages
Author's summary: There's something of the wolf about her.
Characters/Pairings: Rose, The TARDIS, featuring Tenth Doctor.
Warnings: None
Word Count: 3314

Recced because: Many of those on my flist and anyone who happens to have read any of my fic should know that I'm a sucker for the Bad Wolf arc. ^^ This fic, when I read it, jumped straight away on to my Favourites list. Fayth takes a number of the more wolf-ish moments in S2 and makes straight line comparisons to the behaviour of wolves in the real world, and still manages to make it a beautiful story with detailed description, moments of fluff, and a wonderfully hopeful ending. Enjoy!

... and here's today's fic of choice from the_magpye.

Story: Valentine's Day, This year
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All ages
Author's summary: How do you hold a memorial for people who don't even remember they died?
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones
Warnings: None, except for a tissue warning for the soft-hearted. Like me. ^^
Word Count: 2441

Recced because: When I first read this story, on Valentine's Day of last year, I cried. Unashamedly. And I freely admit it too, because this is such a beautiful, wonderful, heart-wrenching piece of writing that I feel like I can admit it without looking totally stupid.

This story looks at a moment in the life of Martha Jones post-LotTL that could well have happened, on Valentine's Day the second time it happened. Or as koshiroryuu puts it: 'Martha Jones is one of the very few people who remembers the first time this year happened, the first time the world had a Valentine's Day this year.'

I hold this fic wholly responsible for making me like Martha more than I did originally. Hands up, I didn't really like her that much when she first arrived on the scene, but now I put that down to being devastated over the S2 finale. This fic put Martha right up with Rose and Donna and Sarah-Jane and all the others, where she deserves to be. I can't even begin to describe the good points about it, because I can't distinguish the good from the even better and the excellent.

So, all I can say to anyone reading this is: go and click on the link-title at the top. Read it. Review it. And enjoy it. Now.

Story: Holding On
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1372
Author's summary: The strength to let go. AU from Doomsday.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler
Warnings: Doomsday spoilers.

Recced because: One of the most common types of New Who fic to find on the Teaspoon (secondary only to Ten/Rose reunionfic) are alternate universe fics where Rose did not, in fact, end up leaving the Doctor at the end of Doomsday. Generally this is perceived to be a good thing by all and Rose gets her happily ever after. Amy Wolf takes the basic premise of Doomsday AUs and she turns it on its head. What if love isn't enough? The Doctor may be a Time Lord, blessed with seeming eternal youth until his next regeneration, but Rose Tyler is only too human. She ages. She changes.

She finally noticed her forty-year-old face in the TARDIS bathroom one otherwise ordinary day.

That was why she’d left.

Forty years old, or around there. Middle-aged, at least. And Sarah Jane Smith was right about one thing. His companions do look younger every year. There’d been new people on the TARDIS; men and women, boys and girls, and an occasional being without gender or determinable age. She’d accepted this, letting him take on other traveling companions. Whoever he wanted, as long as there was no romance or sex with anyone but her. Back then, she hadn’t realized how little that meant. She came to realize it, eventually.

That was also why she left.
