doctor who - three/jo

rec: greenwich village (june 28, 1969)

Story: Greenwich Village (June 28, 1969)
Author: Biichan
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1153
Author's Summary: Jamie just wants to have a quiet drink. The Doctor knows more than he's letting on.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Second Doctor/Jamie.
Warnings: None.

Recced because: Two and Jamie are just absolutely spot-on. This was written for LGBT fest this year and I think Two and Jamie's reactions to the Stonewall riots are just superb. biichan has both their voices down perfectly and the Doctor trying to explain being gay and how it's different from the two of them is just not to be missed, plus it's incredibly, incredibly sweet.

(And that's me done for the week. Sorry to cram them all in at the last minute and I'm sorry my reasons for reccing weren't as well-thought out as usual. Hope you've checked them out and enjoyed them anyway! :))

Rec: The Quiet Chamber

Story: The Quiet Chamber
Author: kalleah
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3,768
Author's Summary: Ten II and Rose in the immediate aftermath of "Journey's End."
Characters/Pairings: Ten (duplicate), Rose, Jackie, Pete
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is one of my favorite post-"Journey's End" stories. It's beautifully written, and perfectly captures the difficult, tentative first day Rose and the duplicate Doctor have together, as well as the uncertainty of their new relationship. The duplicate Doctor may love her as much as the original, but Rose still has confusion, anger, and resentment to sort through, much as she's drawn to this other man. One thing I adore about kalleah's writing is that her Ten and Rose dialogue always feels real and in-character, with no long, flowery declarations of love; the final conversation on the airplane is just the sort of air-clearing we're never going to get onscreen, and the Doctor's last line is gorgeous.

All Changes Big and Small

Story: All Changes Big and Small
Author: the_seventh_l
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1116
Author's Summary: 'Looking in the mirror, Frobisher thought he looked pretty good, even without a beak.' Sometimes even a shape-shifter needs to stay the same. Slight spoilers for "The Doctor's Daughter" and the end of "Journey's End".
Characters/Pairings: Frobisher, Iris Wildthyme, Jenny
Warnings: none

Recced because:

Because Monday's are rather awful sometimes, here's a bit of crack to brighten the day!

For those not in the know, Frobisher is a shapeshifting alien – a Whifferdill to be precise – who likes to wear a penguin body most of the time. In this story Frobisher is having a bit of a mid-life crisis, with some interesting results… the line about him, Jenny, and an adopted Adipose alone make this fic worth its weight in gold. Also, the ending, which explains Frobisher’s fate, is scary-plausible (if a little AU).
