Recced because: I love Rory Williams. Like many of the Doctor’s companions, he is an ordinary person who winds up doing extraordinary things. I have a special fondness for stories that deal with the almost-2000 years he spent as the Lone Centurion, and how that shaped his character. In Secrets, Eriphi takes a slightly different approach by centering the story around Amy and her concerns. The Universe has been rebooted, everything is as it should be, so why is Rory speaking Latin in his sleep and why isn’t the TARDIS translating it for her?
Eriphi has the character voices down pat, especially Eleven’s carefully confusing babble. Here’s a snippet of conversation between Amy and the Doctor:
"What does 'Ah-ha' mean?" Amy asked.
"It's a noise of exclamation. In this case it means, 'Oh, what an interesting question.' Unfortunately it's not the answer to the question that is interesting. Terribly boring, I'm afraid. But the exclamatory noise is because there is a reason you are asking now and not, say, yesterday, or two weeks in the future. Why do you want to know?"
Go and read, and if you like the story as much as I think you will, please leave a review for the author.
