Author's Summary: Shardovan cannot remember a time when he was not the Librarian of Castrovalva.
Characters/Pairings: Shardovan (from Castrovalva), the Master (Ainley), other characters.
Recced because: It's a fascinating look at one of the minor characters of Castrovalva -- Shardovan, who among all the denizens of the city, seemed to be the only one to realize what was going on. The fic gives us an intriguing view into daily Castrovalvan life, and shows us Shardovan's slow realization of the nature of his world, and himself.
If he's mistaken, then there seems even less of a point to speaking to anyone else--and certainly not to the women. They all appear to be perfectly content with their roles as servitors and laundresses. When he gives them a moment's thought, he realizes that he has no idea what any of their names are. So many of Castrovalva's inhabitants, in fact, are nameless entities to him. They seem like so many place-holders, rather than people, there merely in order to fill up the empty spaces.
